The Vision Behind Desa Kelapa

Desa Kelapa (Coconut Village) in Bali, founded by Ismayanti and Gordon Hild, is a youth development center focused on unlocking children’s natural talents, fostering new interests, and building life skills.

Set in Pekutatan, near Kelapa Retreat, it promises to be a sanctuary of growth, learning, and community connection.

“Desa Kelapa is more than just a center for education — it’s a place of wonder, self-discovery, and community,” says Gordon.

Empowering the Youth

Tourism drives Bali’s economy, and Desa Kelapa is a response to the need for local youth empowerment. Supported by the local community and Kelapa Retreat, the center aims to nurture self-confidence, responsibility, and pride in children. This holistic approach prepares them for future careers while encouraging community-driven initiatives

Workshops for Growth

Desa Kelapa already hosts several workshops, such as:

  • Environmental Awareness: Kids learn recycling by collecting beach litter, helping the local project while enjoying games.
  • Art: Workshops on painting, sculpture, and traditional Balinese carving.
  • Music: Immersing kids in Bali’s musical heritage through instruments and dance.
  • Permaculture: Growing food and learning sustainable agriculture.
  • Cookery: Mastering local and international recipes.
  • Sports: Offering a variety of activities to inspire fitness and teamwork

A Vision for the Future

Desa Kelapa’s future includes more workshops designed to inspire creativity and community. Gordon envisions youth grounding businesses within their community, staying close to family, and becoming future leaders. “Through Desa Kelapa, children will develop skills that will allow them to thrive and lead, while remaining rooted in their community,” Gordon explains. By empowering Bali’s youth, Desa Kelapa ensures that the island’s communal spirit continues for generations to come.
